Week 6 A Quote to share

"The way to get good and creative ideas is to get lots of ideas, and throw the bad ones away."
-by Linus Pauling-

This is the creative quote to share with you all this week, i choose this quote because it's more suitable for this week's lecture. So, we can use the logical mind map to get as many ideas as we can, and then throw away the bad ones. Then only we can come out a creative mind map, and inside the mind map, choose the best one as your creative and good idea.

Week 6 Stereotype and mind map-Personal Reflection

image taken from http://www.mindmapart.com/creative-thinking-mind-map-adam-sicinski/

This week, Mr Radzi gave the lecture about stereotype, logical and creative mind-map. The topic a bit same with the week before chinese new year, just to help us recall back what we have learned and also help us get away the chienese new year and holiday mood. :)

The stereotype is the very first impression on something in your mind. Mr Radzi gave the explanation by playing game. He first wrote the answer on 2 paper and then ask the question to see whether they are same or not. The stereotype on anything in our mind can kill our creativity. We should avoid stereotype because they are not special and unit, they have been used for thousands time. BUT, we must know the stereotype well so that we can avoid.

Mr Radzi have show us many examples of creative and logical mind map. In order to come out a very creative mind map, you have to use some elements. For examples, the color, graphic images, arrow, font size, etc. The logical mind map is basically for gathering the information about the subject you want to study. Any information that collected are usually very basic and tend to stereotype.

For me, the stereotype is just like the logical mind map, it's for you to gather the information and research. In order to come out something very creative, you must not choose anything from the logical mind map. BUT we still need it for references. You have to think something else beside what you have gather on logical mind map, and this is the so called creative mind map. Anything different from the logical mind map(stereotype) you think about, can consider as creative mind map.

Week 6 Weekly Task

The weekly task is choose 3 keywords from the mortar&pestle mind map which Mr Radzi provided, and think about another 3 keywords which can let you link the mortar and pestle together.

The keywords that i have choose are money $$, smoke and fashion.

For the first keywords-money--i think of beggar
the beggar can use the pestle hit himself until bleeding and then use the mortar to beg for money.

The second keywords-smoke--smoking
imagine a cigarete which will not finish! The pestle will be the magic cigarete in huge size and can't finish, on the other hand, the mortar will be the ash tray.

The last keywords-fashion--trendy
You can be very fashion even though you having flu! The mortar mask will give you a pretty cool style and the pestle tie which make you perfect!

Week 5-Sharing is caring

This week, a quotation based on the creativity will be shared with all of you.

'Don't think, Thinking is the enemy of creativity.'
-Ray Bradbury (1920) US science fiction writer.-

Ray Douglas Bradbury (born August 22, 1920) is an American fantasy, horror, science fiction, and mystery writer.Best known for his dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and for the science fiction stories gathered together as The Martian Chronicles (1950), Bradbury is one of the most celebrated among 20th century American writers ofspeculative fiction.

Yeah, i do agree with Ray Bradbury that thinking can kill creativity, sometime.
Do not limit yourself with too much of worry, theory and logic. Your creativity will not unleash under such environment. Open your mind, get rid of rules, and feel the creativity !

p/s: Happy Chinese New Year & Happy holiday

Week 5- Mind Map/Stereotype-Personal Reflection

This week, Mr. Mustaffa Muzer brief us about the stereotype and also the mind map concept. The mind map concept can be divided into 2 parts, logical mind map and associated mind map, we learned logical mind map this week and the associated mind map will be cover by Mr. Radzi Bedu on the following week.

Basically, the logical mind map is directly connect to stereotype, the content of the mind map is directly related to the subject title.

Rules of Logical Mind Map
-Put your subject at the center
-Make the subject stand out from others
-Use arrows, colors, font size to differentiate
-Use drawing, images, or sketches to make it more interesting
-Make it neat and clear for easier presentation of meaning
-Use branching, root to make it more organize

Examples:

Week 5 Weekly Task- Creative Mind Map

The weekly task- creative mind map
We have to illustrate a mind map in order to describe ourselves, i use the octopus as my main subject not only because its leg can be the arrow for my mind map but also describe my characteristic. Just like what i mentioned before, I'm quite clumsy all the time just like an octopus.

I try to use different color for the big title and sub-title. I also try to illustrate some simple images just to describe the content better. The content is all about me, my family, hobby, ambitions, wishes and so on.

Not really satisfy with my drawing skills. haha

Week 4-Sharing is caring

Still confuse on what is creativity? Here you go, an article about the creativity.

I'm pretty sure this article can tell you exactly what creativity is. After you read this article, you will be able to differentiate between creativity, innovation, insane, madness, invention and so on.
The ways of being creative like asking the creative question everyday also provided. Read through this article and understand it and practice everyday to become a creative person !

Week 4 Novelty, Creativity, Innovation, Invention-Personal Reflection

Again, this week Mr Mustaffa briefed us about the ‘Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention’. Mr Mustaffa asked one question in the class, is your invention ‘creative’ if that is only create for your own good, your hobby or what you like? My answer is ‘no’.

It’s is simply because we have to inspire by big issues, normally is related to human. Then, we come out the solution or creation, invention which can exactly solve the issues and affect through out the global. Just like the first video that Mr Mustaffa shown us, the hero, Jane Chen who created a warm embrace that saves lives. She was inspired by the baby who was dead because of not enough time send to the hospital which are far far away from their hometown. Because of her invention, many babies was saved.

The creation of Apple company is also another good example. Macbook, ipod, iphone and now the latest invention was ipad. This company gave a brand new idea to the 3C products with the technology and then spread out their invention through our the world.

So, from the example mentioned we have to create or design something ‘BIG’. It’s because our creation can change the people, change the environment, even change the world just to make our live better and easier. How difficult and challenging it is?

Week 4 Weekly Task

Searching through the internet for the definition of novelty, creativity, innovation and invention, i have summarize them and come out my own definition.

Novelty is something which are the very first, original, special while the creativity means the process of creating something new. Innovation is the changing of idea based on the old, exist product, idea, or design, you can say that the innovation is the improvement of invention because the invention is actually creating the new idea.

In deeply explanation, novelty can also be define as the quality of being new. The novelty can be divided into 2, subjective and objective novelty, the objective novelty referring to the very and only new idea in the world which did not mention or discover by others yet. On the other hand, the subjective novelty is something as being new by an individual person or a group of person. This idea maybe already being used by others outside the group.

The term innovation is a process turning an idea or improve/upgrade an idea into the practical reality or service which can be accept by the public and they are willing to pay money for that.

These definition are based on my understanding from the articles that I found on the internet, correct me if I'm wrong.

Week 3- Sharing is caring

This week, i want to show you all a short video taken from youtube. This video is actually an advertisement which promoting the Pantene Shampoo, made from Thailand, but the story behind it was really impressed and touched me.This story is about a little deaf girl who like to play the violin so much but her friend despised her. She was encouraged by another deaf busker after bullied by her friend. Finally, she was then played the violin very well in the competition, and while she was playing, her hair fly with the music and form a beautiful scene.

I think the creative part of this video is the director didn't put the entire idea on shooting the hair in order to promote the shampoo, the director made a touching story to attract peoples and then finally introduce the shampoo, this will really impressed the audiences.

Anyway, this is really creative to me, and i hope you all will like it too.

Week 3 Creativity-Personal Reflection

Creativity is a mental and social process involving the discovery of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts. –http://www.wikipedia.org/

Last Tuesday, we discussed about the ‘creativity’ in the class. This diccusion not only changed my misconceptions on ‘creativity’ but also gave me a brand new definition and concept. Mr Yap mentioned about ‘attitude’ in the class, this is what I strongly agree with. From the definition above which I found in wikipedia, we know that the creativity is about discovery new ideas and concepts. So, the problem is HOW?

Attitude is the answer. You must have the right attitude instead of passionate in order to think in a new way. Train your attitude everyday, on every small matters. Just like what Mr Yap said, why don’t you choose a different way to school? Ya, there is no ‘must’ in eveything. Of course, don’t confuse between the crazy and creative. You can wearing in different style but not wearing the underwear outside.

Develop the attitude on doing everythings differently then when you face some problems, you will able to solve it in a differently way, and that is what creativity all about.

The video above is the professor Ken Robbison’s speech on ‘Do school kill creativity?’ Well, let’s take the example of little girl discovered her talent on dancing. I think not eveyone can discover their own ability or talent in that age, even their parents. So, what you can do? Let the child test everything untill they like the so called talent? What if mistake? What if they don’t like after some time? Keep changing?

If the school have the right attitude on helping childrens find their own abilty then the problem solved. The school should provide every possible choices according to different child but not keep telling the children you must study in order to survive! You must get A in order to success !

Mr Yap's lecture was fun and interesting, i like the way he gave lecture, at least i will not felt sleepy. thanks.

Week 3 Weekly Task

and here is my avatar ! my friend said i am clumsy, just like a sotong?

-Defining Creativity-

Searching throughout the website, i found out there are many definition for the term 'creativity'. For examples,

-the tendency to generate or recognize ideas or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others. (http://www.csun.edu/~vcpsy00h/creativity/define.htm)

-the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/creativity)

For me,creativity is the process of being creative. Creativity is actually the ability of thinking outside the box or creating something new. So, if you want to be a creative person, then u must go through the process (creativity) which is not that easy.

Week 2 Introduction of Creative Studies

After the first lecture of Creative studies, our very first task was state out our expectations and also what we would like to learn from this class as the Introduction of Creative studies.

Well, i hope that i can be a ''creative'' person after the class. I hope the creative ideas always come to me not only for my assignments but everything.

The ''Creative Studies'' should not be boring. If the lecturer can give the lecture in a interesting way not just reading out the slide then will be great.

How to think outside the box? How to get the creative ideas easily?

I hope we can master the creative thinking way from the class. :)

p/s: It's because the 'Creative Blog Assignment1 brief' was uploaded to mmls late, so i have to add on some entries to meet the requirement, that is why the date of first 3week's entries was wrong.
